My mother is an amazing woman. She’s caring, kind, loving and fiercely independent. I have so much admiration for the person she is. She raised me and my two brothers all on her own. All her family were in Poland, and our dad left us when we were very little. She had to take care of us all by herself. Honestly, I don’t know how she did it. One kid would have been hard enough, but three?
It’s sad seeing my mother age. A lady who was once strong and independent has now become frail and meek. It breaks my heart. She requires so much assistance just to do basic things in her life. Luckily, she still maintains her fierce demeanour, but it can make things difficult.
The biggest challenge is getting my mother into the bath. She struggles with getting in and out of the tub and requires me to lift her. Her stubborn personality will allow her to go days without if it means she doesn’t need me lifting her. I’ve decided to contact experts in easy-step bathtub conversion. If she won’t let me help her get into the bath, there must be another way to help her have a wash and feel independent.
I didn’t know exactly what I was looking for, but I was sure there was something that could make it easier for my mother to get in and out of the tub. I initially thought about getting a step stool for her, but I thought this could potentially be more dangerous. I’ve since spoken to a bath modifications company based in Sydney. I explained my mum’s situation and described our current bath setup. They instantly knew the perfect solution to allow my mum to bathe independently and safely.
The installation didn’t take long. The contractor came over and had everything ready to go within the day. My mum looked clearly hesitant at first, but once she gave it a go she loved it. For the first time in a long time, I could see the happiness in her eyes.
